THE HIVE - CENTRAL COAST COUNCIL
Hive Tasmania is the Central Coast’s first cultural precinct and will serve as both a community hub and a drawcard destination for visitors to the region. It has been developed by the Central Coast Council, with funding from the Commonwealth and Tasmanian governments.
Inspired by the concept of a beehive, Hive has been designed as a space for community to gather, explore, share and grow. This bold undertaking represents a vital new asset for our community.
We’re excited to share that Hive includes:
The largest dome planetarium in Tasmania
The first Tasmanian Science Centre
The Ulverstone Visitor Information Centre
The Ulverstone History Museum
A new Art Gallery

SOMA LUMIA
A tech-art collective based in Launceston (Tasmania) founded in 2015.
Known for its distinctively hybrid media-based arts practice, Soma Lumia investigates the boundary between what is real and what is not, what is authentic and what is counterfeit; it navigates this through questioning the relationship between humans and nature, perception and the illusory, actual and virtual.
Soma Lumia’s work is dedicated to delivering considered (at times playful) and moving experiences that help us understand what it means to be human on this fragile and precious planet.
Soma Lumia’s work (and its constituent members’ work) has featured at Mona Foma, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery; Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, Launceston; Mary Washington University Media Wall Virginia, USA; Loop Barcelona (Videoart Festival), Spain and Vivid Sydney.

For 20 years, this prize has shone a spotlight on the creative skills, passions and vision of women artists of all career stages across this state. The theme and mission of the prize is just as relevant today as it was when Material Girl was launched in 2002.
